SCOTD: Reading (And why you have to force yourself to participate in self-care sometimes).

This is a tough one yall. This is one of those, “have to force yourself.” As a matter of fact, so is writing.

Let’s take a minute to talk about why self-care can evoke feelings of self-punishment. Well, the reason is that we are all children. Low key. We all just children, balking at what we don’t want to do even though we should and it’s for our betterment. Sometimes it forces us to feel discomfort physically or emotionally. And it causes us to have to wrecken with ourself. So, yeah reading and writing are those things.

Reading is difficult for me because I have attention span issues. So I have to hanker down and I also have to challenge negative self talk when I do it. But reading makes me a better person all around (especially a better therapist). A lot of what I know about myself comes from reading. I can’t wait to share with you the things I catch in the books I read.

*Because this blog is new, I will spend time talking about the specific thing I did and why it served as self-care. In the future you will have that information already so I will share with you more on the specific activity that day and my experience.*
